Calvin “Cal” Robinson, 80 of Manchester, Iowa, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, April 12, 2018, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

Calvin Leander Robinson was born to Alice Wolfe at home in rural Manchester on August 25, 1937. He was later adopted by his real father Walter Robinson. He received his early education at the McGee brick school northwest of Manchester. The family later moved near Dundee where he graduated from Dundee High School in 1955.

Cal worked briefly with Miller/Carradus Construction, Wilsons, Allis Chalmers and John Deere tractor works. He retired from Collins Radio in August 1999, after 37 ½ years of employment.

He served for six years in the Iowa National Guard out of Oelwein.

He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and hunter. He enjoyed feeding wildlife.

Cal married Erma DeLancey on October 12, 1963. They enjoyed many vacations and trips together, especially to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary. Two children were born to them, Scott Randall and Kelly Leigh. Kelly’s husband, David Sorenson, later joined the family, as did grandchildren Jackalyn, Eliza, and Grant; also, many beloved pets.

He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Keith of Manchester and Kyle and wife, Christine, of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Dona (Merle) Robinson Pierce and Mary (Jack) Sullivan; and a brother-in-law, Harry (Ulaine) DeLancey. Also missing him are his kitties, Sarah and Polly, and grandkitties, Harry, Chance, LeRoy, Casey, Miles, Marble, and Fletcher.

Cal was preceded in death by his grandparents, Earle and Rose Wolfe; his parents, Walter and Alice Robinson; his parents-in-law, Lawrence and Alice DeLaney; one brother, Gary Robinson; a sister-in-law, Linda Robinson; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Shirley DeLancey; a niece; all of his aunts, uncles, and several cousins; and many beloved pets.

Memorials may be directed to Cornerstone Community Church or a Humane Society. No houseplants please.

A special thank you to his caregivers at Regional Medical Center. You were wonderful. (Even if you took his silver.)
