Lucy R. Edwards, 91, of Clarks Summit and formerly of Moosic, died Tuesday evening at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edwards, in November 1986.

Born on Feb. 9, 1927, and daughter of the late Chester Morris Sr. and Frances Hunt Richards, Lucy was raised in Newton and educated in Newton Ransom schools. After raising her loving family, she had last worked for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

Both she and her husband were pillars of the Moosic Hose Company, having volunteered countless hours while participating with their children in all of its events. Lucy had many talents, including playing the accordion and yodeling, but she was also pretty good at both playing bingo and chatting on the phone. An amazing mother and grandmother, she took pride in raising her large and adoring family. Despite any physical ailments she endured, she fought through to lead both a full and independent life. Now at peace, she's certainly earned her angel's wings. She'll be forever missed.

She is survived by her seven children, Michael Edwards and wife, Sharon, of Glenburn Twp.; Carolyn Shaffer, of Taylor; Richard Edwards, of Moosic; Dennis Edwards and wife, Teresa, of Scranton; Gary Edwards and wife, Lehrae, of Duryea; Bonnie Semmelmann and husband, Steve, of Blakeslee; and Bradley Edwards, of Avoca; siblings, Kenneth Richards and wife, Donna, of Dalton; Roger Richards and wife, Cathy, of Tunkhannock; Dorothy Edwards, of Newton; Carolyn Landsiedel, of Dalton; Marilyn Mirabelli and husband, John, of Newton, Va.; Thomas, of Lake Ariel; and Joyce LaRue and husband, Steve, of Newton; 35 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by children, Nancy Evans; William and Thomas Edwards; a grandson, John Leonard; and siblings, James Richards, Chester Morris Jr. and Jean Evaskitis.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at noon in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main St., Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. Donald Gilchrist, pastor of the Chinchilla United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Marcy Cemetery in Duryea.
