Mrs. Margaret "Peg" Barber (née Fitzgibbons) died peacefully on April 9, 2018 in San Jose, CA at the age of 81.
Peg is survived by her devoted husband, Nes Barber; children, Patrick Barber, Karen Lesyna and Mary Barber; siblings, Joseph Fitzgibbons of Colorado Springs, CO; and 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Lesyna, Ben Svoboda, Kristine Lesyna, Elise Hanson, Katie Lesyna, Chris Hanson and Lauren Lesyna. Peg is preceded by her son, John Barber.
Peg was born on September 9, 1936 in Port Jervis, NY to Joseph and Lucy Fitzgibbons. She graduated from St. Catherine's in Brooklyn, in 1957 with a degree in Nursing. She married Nes Barber, her high school sweetheart in 1958. After moving to Utica, NY, Peg began working for St. Luke's Hospital as a Registered Nurse. Over 8 years, the couple welcomed 4 children into their home. Her children remember her as a kind and unselfish mother who was also driven and compassionate and who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Peg was an accomplished nurse at the spinal rehabilitation center at Valley Medical Hospital in San Jose for many years. In addition, Peg loved to garden and cook and loved sports (especially the 49ers) and enjoyed travel including Lake Tahoe. She was a devout Catholic and one of the highlights of her life was meeting Pope John Paul II (twice).
Family and friends are invited to attend a Vigil Service Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:30 P.M. at LIMA-CAMPAGNA-ALAMEDA MISSION CHAPEL, 600 S. Second Street, San Jose. Funeral Service Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the above Chapel. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Peg's life.
