New Hampshire marriage records indicate Sally Hill married Jedediah Carpenter 1798 Feb 11 in Richmond, Cheshire, NH

Apparently they remained in New Hampshire for a few years (eldest son Jed Jr was born in 1802 in New Hampshire while all his known siblings were born in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, starting in 1805).

In 1810 the census finds them in Northhampton County, Pennsylvania, with 2 boys & 2 girls, all under age 10.

The 1820 census for Delmar, Tioga, Pennsylvania indicates son Jedediah was already on his own with his 2 brothers (Samuel had not been born yet) and 3 sisters still with the parents.

In Middlebury, Tioga, Pennsylvania in 1830, apparently only youngest son (Samuel) and one daughter (Lurana?) are still with their parents.

1840 shows Jed & Sally still in Middlebury, all their offspring having set up on their own while some appear to have returned to their parents' house.

Still in Middlebury for the census on 1850 Septmber 17, Samuel is shown living with his parents, Jedediah, age 74, and Sarah, age 72, (this is the first US census to identify all household members by name) while next door are son James and his family. This census indicates Sally was born in Massachusetts but her parents remain undetermined.

In 1860 neither Jedediah nor Sally/Sarah are found in the census.

Several sources incorrectly identify Jedediah's wife as Sarah, Sally or Hannah Stratton. Sarah Stratton, born 1781 Sept 30 in New Jersey to James & Ann Stratton, married Capt Edward Carpenter, son of Thomas, on 1799 Sept 05 in Gloucester County, New Jersey -- Sarah Stratton Carpenter died 1852 Feb 12 and is at rest in New Jersey with her husband (FAG # 7867381). (New Jersey birth & marriages records show Sarah & Edward as the parents of Sarah Caroline, James E, James S, Edward, Louis Henry, Mary T, Samuel T & Thomas P)
