Jerry Don Yates, 77, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at his residence.

He was born on February 11, 1941, in Ash Log, Kentucky, to the late Wade Yates and the late Hazel Simmons Yates. He graduated from Tiptonville High School in 1959. Jerry Don was the owner of Yates & Son's Tile and Culvert Company and was also the former owner of the Tiptonville Ferry. Yates was the former Mayor of Tiptonville, former County Commissioner and the former Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the Tiptonville Church of Christ, a member of the Tiptonville Main Street Association and a member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Jerry Don was a Mason, Shriner and a sponsor of the Lake County Relay for Life. Jerry Don Yates was a devoted husband, dad, and granddad.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at The Strand Theatre in Tiptonville with Mr. Carl Mills officiating. Burial will be in the Tiptonville City Cemetery. Dyersburg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive visitors from 4:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at The Strand Theatre.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Cook Yates of Tiptonville; three sons, Jerry Wade Yates, Jimmy Yates and Reid Yates, all of Tiptonville; a brother, Billy Wade Yates of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Willie Benthal, Bradley Tubbs, Joel Cook, Jonathan Bartlett, Bobby Matheny, David Gooch and Cotton Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Lakeview Coffee Club, Tony White, Bobby Upson, Lanny Haynes, Fred Pollock, Billy Richardson, Jimmy King, Roland Pope, Shelby Barker, David Dunn, Dallas Stacks, Glenn Farley, Steven Avery, Lynn Cooper, Allen Searcy, Thomas Johnson, Jerry Jones, Danny Hitt and Bobby Boyd.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
