Georgia Mae Turner Murphy was the fourth child of George and Ola Mae Turner. She spent her early years in Mims, moving to Syracuse, NY at the age of 5.
She attended Syracuse City public schools and graduated from Blodgett Vocational High School in January of 1960. She went on to obtain her professional certification in electronic data processing and went to work for the Syracuse City school district teaching data processing in the adult education arena and later moved on to work in the district administrative offices. Georgia was an excellent teacher and received several awards and commendations for her work training other teachers in the district. She spent her later years working in retail at Syracuse Selections, St. Vincent DePaul and JCPenny’s before retiring.
Georgia was a natural caregiver and loved to be of help to others. If there was something you needed, all you had to do was say so and Georgia was guaranteed to be there to help you, have what you need or knew where to find it. She loved to bargain hunt and was known for showing up with gift packages affectionately coined "Georgia finds", because if you needed it or even if you didn’t know you needed it, Georgia would find it and give it to you. She loved staying busy doing yard work or building knick-knacks, but most of all loved spending time with her family.
