Wife of Dr Levi Watkins, Sr.
Mrs. Lillian Bernice Varnado, 96, a resident of Montgomery, AL passed away October 6, 2013. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM from Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Porter Osby, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Serenity Gardens. Mrs. Watkins will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
She was the wife of the late Dr. Levi Watkins Sr., former president of the Alabama State University.
Lillian was predeceased by her parents, Reverend Willie L. Varnado and Mrs. Etta Pearl Varnado; her sisters, Pearl Crawford, Doris Conic and Ernestine Guy, her brother, Willie Varnado Jr., her beloved husband; her daughter, Emma Pearl, her grandson, Derek Nicholas Minott, and her sons-in-law, Hamp McDonald and Michael Garraway, her brothers-in-law and several sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Annie Marie Garraway (Ira Deep), Levi Watkins Jr., Doristine L. Minott, Donald V. Watkins Sr., James A. Watkins (Annie Marie); sister-in-law, Johnnie Watkins, and special loved ones DeAndra Watkins and Mrs. Jimmie Walton. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
