Florence Gertrude Marian Rebecca Russell, daughter of the late John Wesley Gross Sr. and Sarah Saunders Gross, was born on May 20, 1924 in Calvert County, Maryland. She was affectionately known as "Marian" by those who knew and loved her. Marian departed this life on April 14, 2014 following a lengthy illness.

On September 27, 1941, she was Joined in holy matrimony to the late Joseph Henry Russell. Marian received her education in the Calvert County public school system. Marian moved to Washington, DC in 1945, she worked as a domestic worker prior to pursuing a career with the Marriott Hotel Corporation, as a hotel maid.

For most of her life Marian lived at 115 16th Street, N.W., in Washington, DC. She was the longest living resident in the apartment building. On July 7, 2007, in honor of Marian the building was named "The Marian Russell Cooperative". On October 26, 2011, the building was officially dedicated in Marian's name.

Marian joined Mount Horeb Baptist Church, in Washington, DC., where she worshipped as a faithful member, sang on the church choir and was a member of the Senior Guild. She truly loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories a special niece whom she raised Sarah Francine Solomon, two sisters-in-law: Mary Gross and Louise Russell, one brother-in-law; Gayhart Kent all of Calvert County, Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her brothers, Wilson Gross, Charles Henry Gross, John Wesley Gross Jr., and sisters; Mary Gross-Johnson Palmer, Troby Hodge and Sarah Solomon.

God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. He gently closed His daughter's eyes and said, "Peace be Thine."
