Services for Joe Berg, 77, Verdon, were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the United Methodist Church in Groton with the Rev. John Maines officiating. Burial was in Groton Union Cemetery.

Mr. Berg died Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

A prayer service for family and friends was held at 7:30 p.m., Monday at the Paetznick-Garness Funeral Home in Groton.

Honorary casketbearers were all his friends and neighbors. Casketbearers were Gerald Bonn, William Tewksbury, DeWayne Dobberpuhl, Kenneth Georgens, Donald Dauwen and Julius Kolb. Mrs. Gene Cassels was the organist and soloist was Brenda Holscher who sang, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. The congregation sang “Praise To The Lord”.

Mr. Berg was born February 3, 1905, at British Hollow, Wis. He came to the Verdon area in 1920 and farmed in the Groton-Verdon areas until his retirement. He married Mabel Haywood at Aberdeen on July 20, 1927. He served on the Bates Township Board and was clerk of the school board for many years.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Bobby, of Aberdeen; one daughter, Mrs. Dwayne (Eloise) Wing, LaGrande, Ore.; one brother, Charles, Groton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
