Charles Weldon Joyce, Jr., 62, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday September 9, 2014. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12 from 6-8 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home in Madison, NC. A service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel.



Interested in the world around him, Chuck was an avid scholar of the arts, aviation, astronomy, the sciences, and computers. He also loved football, tracking local meteorology, and even travelled to see the last NASA space shuttle launch. A dependable friend and active member of the community, Chuck was always happy to help those around him.



He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he also earned a Masters of Arts. His work in the arts included positions with the Minnesota Opera, Johnson City Area Arts Council (Tennessee), and National Public Radio. A degree from the University of Cincinnati in Arts Management coincided with the development of his own company, Artsware. He later earned a Masters of Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and worked as a software developer for AT&T until his retirement.



A caring son, brother, and devoted uncle, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Charles W. and Mary “Toby” Joyce of Madison.
