Sylvia Griffin
Sylvia Jo Griffin was born March 17, 1944 in Corinth, MS, the daughter of the late William Chester and Josie Wiggington Wall. She passed from this life on April 9, 2018 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital at the age of 74 years and 23 days.
She grew up in Corinth and was a 1962 graduate of Alcorn Central High School where she was a talented basketball player. She married James Griffin on June 27, 1969 and they made their home in Selmer, TN. She was a loving wife and homemaker to her family. She and James moved to Jackson, TN in 2013. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren who called her “Nana.” She was an excellent cook and had a great sense of humor. She was very active in her church, Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jackson, and she greatly enjoyed serving in the Ministry to the Shut-ins.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Griffin; two daughters Karen Jones and husband Charlie of Beech Bluff, TN and Angela Yalda and husband Frank of Selmer, TN; and five grandchildren Blake and Kassidy Jones, Kelsey, Vivian and Austin Martin and her beloved Yorkie Poo, Ginger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Randall Wall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gideons International.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 11 at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jackson, TN with Bro. Jerry Welch officiating. Burial will be in the Hope Cemetery in Selmer at 4:00 PM.
The family will receive friends at Hillcrest Baptist Church Wednesday from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM service time.
