Arthur “Art” K. Roop, 93, of Sylvania, OH, formerly of Temperance, MI, and Kankakee, IL, died Sunday, April 8, 2018, in Kingston Care Center. Born November 20, 1924, in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Benedict and Florence (Spate) Roop. A US Air Force veteran of WWII, he married Marilyn West on October 6, 1951. Art received his Bachelor’s of Science degree from Augustana College in 1951. Art was employed as a Method Development Chemist for Armour Pharmaceutical Company for 35 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Phi Beta Kapa, Lambertville United Methodist Church and former member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Kankakee, IL. Art enjoyed golfing, baking, woodworking, gardening and home repair.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children, Janice (Bruce) Puryear, Barbara (John) Pershe and Jennifer (Bryan) Troutman; 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Art was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Wollek.
Visitation will be from 3:30 – 5 pm, Sunday, April 15, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where funeral services will follow at 5:00 pm.
