Gilbert John "Gib" Volk, 87, of Ingraham, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at Carle Richland Memorial in Olney.

He was born on July 27, 1930 in Jasper County, IL, the son of William and Sophia (Dorn) Volk.

He married Patricia Ida Kaufmann on December 27, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ste. Marie and she survives.

Gib served in the US Army and after discharge, returned to his family farm. He spent his entire life working, farming, and providing for his wife and 14 children. He was a good son to his parents, a loving husband and father, and a kind neighbor. He was always quick to help anyone in need. He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church his entire life and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Gib is survived by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Deb (Floyd) Holkenbrink of Teutopolis, IL; son, Phil (Karla) Volk of Wakefield, IL; daughter, Cathy (Jim) Lewis of Bible Grove, IL; daughter, Sandy (Tom) Webb of Jewett, IL; daughter, Lisa (Brian) Bohnhoff of Dietrich, IL; daughter, Becky (Carl) Will of Newton, IL; daughter, Mary (Vance) Woods of Newton, IL; daughter, Sherry (Todd) Shamhart of Newton, IL; daughter, Joyce (Scott, deceased) Hartrich of Newton, IL; daughter, Judy (Phil) Zumbahlen of Newton, IL; daughter, Toni (Roger) Zumbahlen of Newton, IL; son-in-law Bob Westendorf; daughter-in-law, Terri Wyatt Higgins; 42 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Chuck and John; daughter, Jan Westendorf; son-in-law, Scott Hartrich; grandson, Shane Lewis; three sisters and nine brothers.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 with burial following in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the graveside.
