PRINCETON – Carol Butler, 83, of Princeton, died Friday, April 6, 2018. Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Welch High School and moved to Princeton to work at the Maidenform plant. She later worked at Hill’s Department Store for many years. Her father was a coal miner in the McDowell County surrounding areas mines and her mother died when she was 11 years old. She loved gardening and taking care of her house, watching mystery movies on TV, reading magazines, making flower arrangements and baking for friends and family.

Born August 30, 1934 at Welch, she grew up in the community of Marytown, WV. She was the daughter of the late George Washington Phillips Sr. (1880-1962) and Ora Walker-Phillips (1901-1947). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eleven siblings. She is last surviving member of her immediate family. She was previously married to Robert Lewis Butler, Jr. (B. 1926) on November 14, 1961 in Welch, McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1961, Page 378, Application Date: November 8, 1961).

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Butler-Sullivan of Pilot Mountain, NC; two grandsons, Nathan Sullivan and Spencer Sullivan; nieces and nephews, Jack Vance of VA, and Joe Vance and Mary Garcia both of NC; and special friends, Mike Kessler and Linda Kessler of Princeton.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 10, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. A private graveside service will follow at a later time.
