ROBERT LEON CORNWELL of West Melbourne, FL and Newark Valley, NY died at home - he was the son of Willet and Mary Albro Cornwell. Bob was a lifelong resident of Newark Valley, was a WWII, U.S. Army veteran, was an employee of the Tappan Gas Company and in 1964 established Cornwell Gas and Appliance. His reputation and knowledge of appliances and repair of them led to the addition of a hardware store which he owned and operated until his retirement. Bob was a lifetime member of the Newark Valley Fire Department, a member of VFW Post 1371 and American Legion Post #401 in Owego, NY where he was recently honored as the longest (70 years) continuous living member. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Schoonmaker Coarnwell and infant daughter, surviving are sons, Douglas (Carl Hardy) Cornwell of Greenacres, FL, Donald (Judy) Cornwell of Fairport, NY and Dean (Phidelia) Cornwell of Newark, NY; grandchildren, Sarah, Laura, Daniel Cornwell, Eric (Christina) Cornwell, Rachel (Bill) Eckler, Ryan (Emily Moore-Awad) Cornwell, Andrew (Joana) Cornwell, Emily (Justin) Guerrerri; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Eveline, Maggie Joy, Tyler, Felicity, Theodore and Avett. A Celebration of Life will be held at the McPherson Funeral Home in Newark Valley, NY on April 21, 2018. Burial will be held with full Military Honors. Published in the Florida Today April 8, 2018.
