1931-2018
John Metzler, age 87, passed away Saturday March 31, 2018. One of 7 children, he was born in Houston February 27, 1931, to Edward Emil Metzler and Pearl Dean Kuehn Metzler.
John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lucy Metzler; daughter Karen Wright and her husband David; twin sons, Daryn and Devyn Metzler; sister, Eddie Mae Newman and her husband Don; brother, Harold L. Metzler; and grandsons, Justin and Nathan Hill, David and Justin Wright, Jack and Max McAdams, and Sam Sepulveda.
John graduated from Jefferson Davis High School and received his BBA from University of Houston in 1954. He served his country in the US Army and was honorably discharged.
John retired from Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages (now AT&T). He cofounded and was president of Automatic Door Systems.
John was a member of Arabia Shrine Center where he served as Past Commander of the Legion of Honor and Past State Commander of Texas Shrine Association Legions of Honor. He was a member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church and the Bridgebuilders Sunday School Class.
John will be remembered for his love of nature, gardening and giving away the fruits of his labor.
A Memorial Service celebrating John's life will be held Saturday, April 14th, 2018 at 11:00 am at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77079. A reception will follow in Friendship Court, adjacent to the sanctuary. Graveside services will follow the memorial service at 2:30 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
