Son of Ike Whaley

Spouse of Margaret C Evans & Susan F Arthur

Lemuel M. Whaley was born to Isaac [Ike] Whaley and Nancy Moore on October 19, 1845 in Liberty, Tennessee.

He became a farmer from an early age. In 1860 Lemuel and his family are shown living with Joseph Clark a farmer in Dekalb County, Tennessee. The next census shows him as a farm hand in the same district but no longer living with Mr. Clark.

On January 25, 1874, Lemuel was wed to Margaret C. Evans in Tennessee. Sometime between 1874 and 1880 the couple moved to Mt. Vernon, Missouri. He continued his profession as a farmer.

The couple had four children, Effie, Onie [Hundley/Long], Isaac and Neva. Margaret passed away in 1888 and is buried in Stotts City, Missouri.

Mr. Whaley would eventually remarry. His second spouse was Susan F. Arthur. They married on April 4, 1895 in Bowers Mill, Missouri. The couple never had any children.

The 1910 census shows the couple in Sarcoxie, Missouri and the 1920 census shows them in Vineyard, Missouri. Lemuel was still farming and listed his industry as a fruit hand in his final days.

Mr. Whaley passed away on September 24, 1925. According to his death certificate, he was still farming and residing in Bowers Mill, Missouri. His wife Susan was the informant and stated that he worked wherever he could. Lemuel is the perfect example of a hard working man that helped this country become what it is today.
