Frank Tracy, 95, passed away peacefully in his home with his beloved wife of 21 years Bobbie Shumaker Tracy by his side. He was born in Boston, MA to Frank Edward II and Susan Quinn Tracy. He attended public schools in MA and CT and The Norfolk Division of the College of William &andMary/ Virginia Polytechnic Institute ( now Old Dominion University ). Corporal Tracy served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II participating in the initial combat landings on the islands of Bougainville, Solomon Islands where his battalion was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation and, Guam, Mariana Islands where he was wounded by Japanese hand grenade fire. He also served in American Samoa, British Samoa, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Guadalcanal and at the U.S. Naval Mine Depot, Yorktown, VA. He retired from the Virginia Dept of Transportation (VDOT) after 40 years of service and, was the first Division Administrator for the Information Systems Division of VDOT; Former President of the Highway Engineering Exchange Program (1983); Recipient of the AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) Presidents Special Award of Merit (1986); the Hubert A Henry award (1988) and, the Kenneth G. Close award (1988). He was a long time volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society, served as a volunteer member of the Salvation Army Disaster Relief Team and was member of Derbyshire Baptist Church. He was step-father to 6 daughters; 3 with Bobbie Shumaker Tracy and 3 with deceased wife Francis Shepherd Tracy.
