Professional footballer. Born in Alderley Edge, son of Henry and Mary Louisa (Manton) Burgess, Harry started his professional career at Stockport County in 1925, making 112 appearances and scoring 72 goals for the club. He transferred to Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of £3,500 in 1929, then a record for a Stockport County player. In 1929-30 he won the League Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, and stayed with the club until 1935 having made over 230 appearances and scoring 77 goals. Whilst at Wednesday in 1930 he also made four appearances for England, scoring four goals. From 1935 until his final professional appearance in 1939 he played for Chelsea, making a further 142 appearances and scoring 37 goals.
On 18th June 1930 he married Emily Price at St. Bartholomew's church, Wilmslow.
Harry died on 6th October 1957 in Wilmslow.
