Warren Garrott

Warren Garrott, professional civil engineer of Jackson, died on December 20, 2017. He was born in Sheridan, Wyoming, on August 30, 1932. Warren was the first of four children to parents Warren A. Garrott, Sr. and Ida Fischer Garrott.

Warren attended Winona High School and Greenwood High School and was a member of the football teams. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Warren and Martha Ann Peters were married on January 30, 1959. They are parents to daughter Sara Dochterman, West Palm Beach, Fla., and son Charles P. Garrott, Olympia, Wash.

Warren's siblings are sister, Jennie Lee Frazier of Starkville and brothers, Tom Garrott of Winona and Fred Garrott of Jackson.

Warren lived in the oilfields of Sheridan, Wyoming, Yazoo City, Mississippi, Panama City, Florida, Greenwood, Winona and Jackson, Mississippi.

Following high school, Warren joined the US Army, serving as a Military Police Sergeant stationed at Ft. Leavenworth and as a prisoner of war guard in Korea.

After discharge from the Army, Warren attended Mississippi State University and graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. Warren spent his life as a self- employed civil engineer and land surveyor. He loved his job.

Warren was an early member of the Jackson Audubon Society, an early promoter of soccer in Mississippi, an amateur linguist, pilot, philosopher, mechanic, genealogist, and adviser.

Warren knew at least one person (usually more) anywhere he went and if he didn't know anyone when he arrived, he knew everyone when he left.

A memorial gathering was held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at the Mississippi Crafts Center in Ridgeland.
