Mr. Raymond C. Barber, Sr. age 93 of Rockmart passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018.

Mr. Barber was born October 13, 1924 in Polk County, son of the late Emmett Wayne (E.W.) Barber, Sr. and the late Evie Elliott Barber. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. Mr. Barber retired from the Ford Motor Company with 19 years of service and for many years owned and operated Barber’s Grocery Store in the Fish Creek Community. He was instrumental in organizing the first Polk County Volunteer Fire Department where he served as the first Fire Chief.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Waters Barber on May 5, 2007; son, Melvin Douglas Barber; daughter-in-law, Donna Owens Barber; and five brothers, Durell Barber, William Barber, Ralph Barber, Preston Barber and E.W. Barber, Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Raymond C. (Ray) Barber, Jr. and Ronald R. (Ricky) Barber and his wife Kim all of Rockmart; brother, Paul Barber of Cedartown; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Barber will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Freeman Harris Funeral Home with Mr. Kenny Dodd and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. Interment services will follow in the family lot of Polk Memory Gardens with American Legion Brown-Wright Post 12 Honor Guard in charge of the military graveside rites.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Brad Barber, Wes Hurley, Adam Flowers, Cody Corn, Dylan Corn and Tyler Dodd.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Mason Corn, Hunter Jolly, Ricky Lance Barber and any and all Polk County Volunteer Firemen.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018 between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 p.m.
