Doyle Lee Johnson, 83, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 30, 2018.

Born in Claiborne County, TN, he graduated from Karns High School and moved to Indiana where he attended Purdue-Inland and worked and retired as a General Electrical Foreman from Inland Steel Co. (now Mittal Steel), East Chicago, IN.

He married Sara Jo Seneker in Knoxville in 1954. They moved to Indiana and resided in Hammond, Cedar Lake, and Crown Point, IN where they raised their daughters before retiring to Tennessee.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Eula (Beeler) Johnson; brother Glen Johnson; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 63 years, Sara (Seneker); daughters, Rhonda (Dr. William) Franks, Eustis, FL and Debbie (Mike) Rainguet, Golden, CO; granddaughters, Adrienne Walera, Reno, NV; Rachel Walera, CA; and Renee (Jordan) Jefferies, Wheat Ridge, CO; great-granddaughter, Indigo Walera-Henry, Reno, NV; sisters, Inez Patrick, Knoxville, TN and Elaine (Floyd) Underwood, Lenoir City, TN; brother, Don Johnson, Maryville, TN; brother-in-law, Rev. Clay (Ida) Seneker, Soddy Daisy, TN; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis (Bill Root) Fifield-Johnson, Franklin, TN; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends that blurred the lines of family.

After retiring to Tennessee, Doyle built a house and had a small farm in Afton where he enjoyed raising beef cattle, growing and harvesting hay, and tending to a large garden. He was active in Ruritan and Community Club at Union Temple. As a member of First Baptist Church of Baileyton, he was involved in maintenance and renovation of the existing church and subsequently the building of a new sanctuary addition where he designed and built a cross which hangs in front of the baptistery.

Doyle was a fighter and endured a long history of serious health issues that began in the 70s. Unable to care for the farm, he and Sara moved to Jonesborough and joined Trinity Baptist Church. Despite his health, he was always ready to lend a hand to friends and family and could do whatever he set his mind to. He was a loyal friend, loved by many, and admired for his tenacity, talents and hobbies including woodworking, especially wood turning and metal lathe work.

He was known for his ability to build or make just about anything from tiny metal parts, farm equipment, and panoramic cameras and film processing equipment to grandfathers clocks, furniture, churches, barns, and houses. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed camping and fishing outings with his friends and family.

Many thanks to Fresenius Dialysis Center, Amedisys Home Health, especially McKinley and Laurie, all of his medical providers, his church family, and the many family, neighbors and friends who pitched in to provide help and support when he needed it.

Friends may visit with the family in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation services, Johnson City from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, with the funeral service immediately following with Dr. Mark Harrod officiating.
