When I come to work, I have no idea what Im going to do that day. It just depends whats broke, tore up, or sittin sideways.
Aint nothin to it, the way we do it.
You might recognize those quotes from Parklane Academys biggest fan. He never met a stranger, always made time to chat with a smile, tell a joke and leave you with a bit of his wisdom. Davis was a resident of McComb for 41 years. He worked on the railroad in Mississippi and Louisiana for over 20 years before retiring due to health issues. After that retirement he did odd jobs around town helping others before going to work for Parklane Academy as the man that could fix anything, where he continued to work 34 years until a day after his 80th birthday. He couldnt stay away for long.
Soon after he retired, they gave him another job as the ticket taker at various athletic events which gave him the opportunity to see his Parklane family again and again. He enjoyed building relationships with the faculty and students more than the job itself. He would often run into students and faculty years later, recalling a special memory for each of them. He was an active member of Sincerity Masonic Lodge 214 in Magnolia where served faithfully for years. This would have marked his 50th year as a Mason. Davis attended New Heights Baptist church in Summit.
Some of his proudest moments include being Gramps to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was very proud of them and was a significant influence in their up-bringing. The grands loved to go visit and take trips with Nanny and Gramps. He was most proud to tell everyone that all of his grandchildren graduated from college.
He loved watching Braves baseball and Saints football when he wasnt working or watching an event at Parklane. He also loved hunting and working at the deer camp. He always included his grandchildren in hunting outings from the time they were old enough. He always had a snack with him in case they got hungry along with a pocket poker game to help pass the time.
Davis was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Helen Clay Nanny Bell, parents Eunice and JW Jake Bell, sister Emma Nell, daughter-in-law Loresa Rollins Williamson, daughter Nancy.
He is survived by his sister Joyce (Gene) Lambert; children Davey (Robin) Bell of Macon, GA; Brent (Mary) Bell of Tampa, FL; Tony (Terri) Williamson of Pearl, MS; Tim Williamson of Natchez, MS; Suzanne Wright of Byram, MS; grandchildren Amber (Jacob) Hartwig, Brittney (Dusty) Davis, Katie (Andy) Taunton, Tyler Williamson, Stephanie Bell Hildreth, Elizabeth Bell; great-grandchildren Clay, Clark, and Maggie Hartwig, Shiloh and Ariella Davis.
Pallbearers: Richard Coghlan, Kenny Gatlin, Jack Henderson, Russell Schmidt, Sid Siebert, Matt Williamson
Honorary Pallbearers: Evan Parsons, John William Hope, Charlie Stringer, Gaylon Varnado, Jack Lindsey, Tom Willoughby
The family would like to thank the entire Parklane family and many friends for all the years of friendship, support and most of all love. He felt it every day, all you have to do is ask his family because he shared with us how much you meant to him!
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you please make donations to Parklane Academy for improvements to the Davis Bell Park baseball facility.
