He was born January 13, 1946, in Aledo, the son of Donald “Hap” and Alma (St. George) Hays.
He is survived by his son, Donald (Tara) Hays of Oquawka; two grandchildren, Drake and Adrianna; a sister, Mary Ann Willits in Arizona; a nephew, Shannon Willits; and a niece, Staci McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Hays.
Dick was a mechanic in the United States Air Force before retiring. He graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1964. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a collector of all things.
Private family graveside services with military honors will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. There will be no visitation.
