John Norman Chappell, age 78, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018, at his home in Bristol, Tenn. He was a devoted husband and father, was of the Baptist Faith and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruth Chappell. John was a graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Accounting, obtaining a CPA license. He retired from a long career as a bank auditor and was an assistant Vice President and Director of Professional Practice at Signet Banking Corporation. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shelby Chappell; son, Kevin Chappell and wife, Tonya; daughter, Pamela Chappell of Blountville, Tenn.; brother, Paul Chappell and wife, Sue of Blountville; and sisters, Ruth Leonard of Bristol, Tenn., and Eula Barber of Andalusia, Ala. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn. A graveside service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., per Mr. Chappell's request, with Dr. Billy Christian officiating. Pallbearers will be Jerry Clark, Butch Hinkle, Phil Campbell, P.J. Campbell, Rex Leonard, and Butch Cooper. Military honors will be rendered by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard Post #6975. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Life Baptist Church, 1000 Hendrickson Lane, Bluff City, TN 37618.
