Mr. Roger Bowman age 63 of Carthage died at 6:38 p.m. Monday evening April 2, 2018 at the Tri-Star Hendersonville Medical Center of heart failure, from which he was not able to recover.

Thursday afternoon April 5th funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. from the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home with his longtime pastor, Eld. Van Mathis and Eld. Dave Silcox officiating. Burial followed in Section Five of the Ridgewood Cemetery.

One of ten children, he was born Roger Edward Bowman in Carthage on December 21, 1954 and was the son of longtime building contractor Herman Alton Bowman who died at the age of 69 on June 14, 1983 and Lorene Sexton Bowman who died at the age of 79 on August 28, 2002.

Seven siblings preceded him in death, Elizabeth Ann Bowman who died October 30, 1946 at the age of 20 days, Billy Sexton who died in 1981, Charlotte Ann Bowman Givens who died December 24, 2000 at the age of 43, Shirley Dean Bowman Kemp who died February 29, 2011 at the age of 75, Alton Bowman who died May 10, 2014 at the age of 70, David Herman “Bodie” Bowman who died July 17, 2004 at the age of 53, Jessie Wendolyn Bowman Hill who died February 19, 2017 at the age of 76.

Before becoming disabled, Mr. Bowman was employed with his father and later his brother Alton in the construction business.

He was saved as a teenager and was baptized into the full fellowship of the East Carthage Missionary Baptist Church.

In 2006 he lost his eyesight and for the last twelve years had made his home at the Palace at Red Boiling Springs.

He was a 1971 graduate of Smith County High School and was never married.

Surviving are two sisters, Brenda Bowman Thrower and husband Roy of Gordonsville, Vivian Petty Allen of Carthage.
