Funeral Mass was held for Diane Duncan on Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elk Horn, NE. A visitation was held Tuesday afternoon followed by a Wake Service at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elk Horn. A private interment is planned at the Coon Rapids Cemetery this Saturday, August 30 at 10:30 a.m. Diane lived in Omaha, NE, where she passed away last Saturday, August 23 at the age of 65. Born on June 16, 1949, in Coon Rapids, Diane Jean Duncan was the daughter of Dwaine G. Duncan and Norma J. (Cornelius) Duncan. She attended Coon Rapids Annunciation Catholic School through eighth grade. During the summers for several years, Diane was a fixture at the local Coon Rapids swimming pool, participating on the swim team, employed as a lifeguard and private swim instructor. Diane had a calling to become a nun and attended St. Mary's Academy in Prairie Du Chien, WI for three years. During this time she decided she wanted to become a nurse. Diane entered her senior year of high school in Coon Rapids where she graduated in 1967 Diane began her nursing training in Carroll. She earned her LP license and took her first job at a hospital in Rochester, MN. Two years later, Diane moved to Emmetsburg where she earned her RN degree at Iowa Lakes Community College. From there, she moved to Omaha, NE, to work at Immanuel Lutheran Hospital. Diane spent her life in Omaha working and developing friendships with almost everyone she met. Diane had the knack of getting people together and having a good time. She was kind and caring towards others which was evident by her wit, a warm smile or grin that was sure to lead to an unforgettable memory. Diane spent most of her nursing career at Red Cross. She had worked there for 32 years. Red Cross recognized Diane for her professional, loyal service by acknowledging her with a crystal vase to represent the highest of honors with the Tiffany Achievement Award. During retirement, Diane enjoyed golfing a couple times a week, attending morning mass, and visiting family and friends. It will forever echo "Diane is here!" While Diane had many other accomplishments and milestones in her life, the one that stands out the most is the dedication and commitment she had to her family. After her mother's unexpected death in 1976, Diane took on a nurturing role for her three elementary aged siblings. She embraced them with her fun times, lit up their special moments and consoled them like her mother would have wanted. Bill, Kathy and Patty believe their life was significantly enhanced because of her love and dedication. Her impact on their lives will never be forgotten. Surviving are her father, Dwaine, of Coon Rapids; four brothers: Larry (wife Terrie) of Windsor, IL, Randy of Bettendorf, Kevin (wife Kathy) of Marshalltown, and Bill (wife Cora) of Grimes, two sisters: Kathy, of Fort Worth, TX, and Patty (husband Mark) of Sioux Falls, SD , along with nieces and nephews Nicole, Jessica, Robin, Ashley, Amanda, Andy, Mike, Andrea, Mark, Chase, Trad , Nathan and Samantha. She will be missed by paramount friends who defined the true meaning of friendship. She is preceded in death by her mother Norma, her brother Maurice, her nephew Brandon, and grandparents.∼*************************************
