SP4 Daniel F. Bettancourt served with B Company, 2nd Battalion, 501st Infantry. He was killed in action by mortar fire on his unit's night position about 5 kilometers west of Hue. Two other soldiers were killed in the same attack, and one - PFC Ronald F. Sadler - was wounded at the same time and died from his injuries on 24 March 1968.
