Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Thursday, December 7, 1939, page 2:
   John Richter, 56, died at his home here at 457 Hoehn St., at 10:10 o'clock Thursday morning after an illness of several months. He became ill of complications on September 26.
   Mr. Richter was born October 23, 1883, at New Douglas, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Richter. In 1922, he was married to Mrs. Mattie Danneman of Edwardsville. He had resided in Edwardsville for the past 34 years. He had recently been employed at the Manhattan Grill, but was formerly an Edwardsville policeman.
   Surviving are his wife and his mother, the latter now of Alhambra. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Catherine Daech, Mrs. Marie Spindler and Mrs. William Voyles, of Edwardsville; Mrs. Frank McCullough, of Decatur, and Miss Leona Richter, Alhambra; a brother, Henry Richter, of Alhambra, and one step-son, Leroy Danneman of Edwardsville.
   Funeral services were to be planned late Thursday afternoon, and will be announced tomorrow.

   Funeral services for John Richter, who died here Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, will be held from the Marks-Weber Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  Rev. E.W. Jahn will have charge of the services. Burial will be at New Douglas Cemetery.
