Madeline Hutcherson Thompson, 88, of Lynchburg, died peacefully on Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was the wife of the late Jackson Barkwell Thompson. Madeline was born on September 22, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, Va., to the late John David Hutcherson and the late Mamie Moon Hutcherson. She was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church and was retired from John Stewart Walker, Inc. after 44 years of service. She is survived by her brother, Willard Hutcherson of Lynchburg; her sister-in-law, Ruby Hutcherson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Melvin, Paul, Carlton, and Herbert Hutcherson; and two sisters, Louise Cardwell and Margaret Shotwell. A celebration of Madeline's life will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the staff at Heritage Green Assisted Living led by Charlotte Dunlop and Penny Springs and the staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their diligence, care, encouragement, and faith during these last four months.
