Stephen R. Rodgers born June 14, 1940 in Alexandria, VA, passed away Feb. 20, 1996 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tacoma, WA. Steve graduated from Washington State University with a MA in Music Education. He taught for over 21 years in public and private schools in the community for nearly 30 years. He taught music in the Sumner School District for 16 years, including the 5th - 12th grade band program and private lessons. Prior to that he taught in the Olympia and Peninsula School Districts. Steve is lovingly survived by his wife of 31 years, Shirley. He is also survived by a son, Geoff; a daughter, Stacey and her husband, Dan Grady; brothers, David and James Rodgers. We wish you to join us in the celebration of God's love and mercy, and the loving memory of our friend, husband and father. Viewing at Powers Funeral Home in Sumner on Fri., Feb. 23, between 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Memorial service to be held Sat., Feb. 24, at Auburn Calvary Temple, 3535 Auburn Way S., at 9:30 a.m. Graveside service for family and friends will be held at Sumner Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to either a scholarship fund at Sea-First Bank in Sumner for Music students or to the American Heart Association in memory of Stephen Rodgers.
