Automobile Kills Fairport Woman
Police Investigate Fatal Accident
Mrs. John Laitinen, 66, Struck While Crossing Street; Dies In Hospital
Mrs. John Laitinen, 66, of 323 New Fourth Street, Fairport, died in Lake County Memorial Hospital at 11:30 last night, from internal injurie3s received when she was knocked down by an automobile at the corner of East and Fifth Streets.
The fatal accident took place at about 9 o'clock.
Mrs. Laitinen was on her was to visit her daughter, Mrs. John Dilgren, who lives in East Street Apartments. As she was crossing the street directly in front of the apartment house, she was struck by a machine driven by Miss Adolean Webster, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Webster, 520 N. St. Clair St., according to Fairport police.
The injured woman was rushed to the Lake County Memorial Hospital in the machine of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kniesley, who also live in East Street Apartments.
Miss Webster could not be reached today to give her version of the accident.
Two hours after the accident occurred, Mrs. Laitinen died.
The deceased came to this country in 1890 from Finland, where she was born. She had been a resident of Fairport since that time.
She is survived by her husband, John; four daughters, Mrs. John E. Markko, Mrs. Ernest Sherwood, Mrs. John Dilgren and Hilda, all of Fairport.; three sons, John E., Harvey and Rudolph M., also of Fairport; and one sister, Mrs. Joseph Peterson, of Seattle, Washington.
Funeral services will be held from the Suomi Synod Church, corner of Fifth and Eagle Streets, Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Gabriel Lipsanen, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
