Edward was granted 20 days leave on Feb.10, 1864. He married Alice Elizabeth McCrum Johnson on Feb. 29. She just celebrated her 17th birthday on Jan. 1. He returned to his command a few days later and was killed in action 10 weeks after their marriage. Alice then married Joseph Anthony/Antone Zanone, who passed away in 1918. She passed away in 1930 and was also buried in Cave Hill cemetery, just a hundred feet from her first husband who died 76 years earlier.
