She was born February 28, 1952 at Winterset, Iowa the daughter of Stanley and Charlotte (Spencer) Smith. On October 18, 1970 in Creston, Iowa she was united in marriage to Gary R. Schad, who survives. Also surviving are one son, D.J. Schad “Dennis” of Urbandale, Iowa; one daughter Cherity Gabrielle and her husband John of Kennesaw, Georgia; one brother, Stanley L. Smith and his wife Barb of Sanibel Island, Florida; two sisters, Gayle Jordan and her husband Larry and Cheryl Jane Shanks and her husband Randy all of Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Megan, Jessica, Brandon, Sarah, Izzy and Joe; one step-grandchild, Charlotte and her best life-long friend, Melody Black.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters.
Carol grew up and graduated from high school in Iowa. For over twenty years she was a computer tech and then became a shift supervisor for the State of Iowa of which she was very proud. Her job enabled her to complete several college courses to achieve her career goals.
A celebration of life will be held from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Shell Knob Community Building. Burial will be at a later date at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Shell Knob.
