Elizabeth Hart was the daughter of a Pittsburgh, PA policeman. She married musician Jack Purvis in about 1926. Jack was becoming well-known and influential in the developing field of Jazz music at the time of their marriage.
Elizabeth and Jack had a daughter, Betty Lou, in 1927 and shortly thereafter they separated. Elizabeth and Betty Lou moved back into the household of Elizabeth's parents, where they stayed until after Betty Lou graduated from high school. Elizabeth worked as a secretary/clerk at the General Motors plant in Pittsburgh until she relocated to the Pompano Beach/Fort Lauderdale area in 1965.
