Memorial Service for Rita Littlefield Foster of Lawton will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2:00 PM at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. 1502 NW Fort Sill Blvd. Lawton, Oklahoma.
A private family burial will be at Highland Cemetery before the service.
The family will greet guests after the service.
Rita passed away on Tuesday, March 28 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 95.
Rita Littlefield Foster was born September 12, 1922 in Novice, Texas to Clara (Meredith) and Will Parker. She was the youngest of ten children. She graduated Novice High School in 1939, and attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas and then John Tarleton Jr. College in Stephenville, Texas.
In 1942, while he was stationed in Arizona, she married Captain John Littlefield of the United States Army Air Force. She waited for him while he served in WWII. They eventually moved to Coleman, Texas in 1946, and opened their first Fabric Shop. Their marriage was blessed by three daughters.
They moved to Lawton in 1959 for John to become the assistant manager of Sears Roebuck and Co. They eventually opened their own Lawton business in 1962: The Fabric Mart. Two additional stores were added in Duncan and Chickasha. The Fabric Mart was considered the premier fabric store of Southwest Oklahoma. The stores closed in 1971.
In 1969, Rita opened Rita's Fabrics of Fashion in the Erwin Acres Shopping Center. She added a Bridal Gown Department and sold fashion fabrics for five years. Rita planned wedding and bridesmaid dresses for her daughters and for many young brides in Lawton.
In 1974, Rita moved to Dallas, Texas to work in sales in the wholesale fabric industry. She represented several fine fabric lines, traveling to Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. She made many friends "on the road" and consulted in opening inventory for numerous quilt shops. She was widely considered an expert in the fabric industry.
Rita and her daughter, Carol Knowles, opened Fabric Things in the Erwin Acres Shopping Center in 1979. They specialized in fashion and bridal fabrics. They added Bernina sewing machines and a consignment shop to their business, until closing in 1984. Rita returned to Lawton, and continued her wholesale career until retirement.
Even recently, she still had a collection of fabrics from her stores, which she often offered to share for a special project or supply samples for local quilters.
Rita was an elegant woman, with Grace and Beauty. She was devoted to her family, and was a friend to many. She was always on a mission to pray for others, and give a kind word to all she met.
Rita was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Lawton Chamber of Commerce and First Baptist Church of Lawton.
She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Littlefield Suess of Tulsa, Charlotte Littlefield Dickens of Oklahoma City, and Carol Littlefield Knowles and husband, Bob of Lawton. her special son-in-law, Vern Suess of Tulsa. Grandchildren: Dena Dickens Alvis, David Dickens, Blake Suess, Kristin Suess Oliver (Brandon), Brad Knowles (Ericka), Ryan Knowles (April), Meredith Knowles Ireland (Craig) Great grandchildren: Madison Alvis, Blake Alvis, Dylan Dickens, Mykayla Dickens, Madelyn Dickens, Ethan Knowles, Carter Knowles, Kacie Knowles, Tucker Ireland, Cooper Ireland, Brooks Oliver, and James Oliver. her sister in law Inez Edwards and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and four sisters, and a granddaughter, Kacie Dickens.
