Rita loved to travel and was an amazing historian and storyteller. She was knowledgeable on just about anything and creative in finding solutions to difficult situations. Caring, compassionate and extremely generous, she was a dedicated friend and extended family member to many people she cared for and about. She had a strong work ethic and was independent and strong willed.
Rita traveled across the country and back, alone in her van in the 1970’s visiting family along the way; she had many trips to Maine with friends, traveling to Ireland with Ginny and to Arkansas with John and Wanda; sharing amazing stories of all her adventures, of which there were many.
Rita worked in a variety of settings from an auto parts shop to the forest service to being a personal care attendant as well as volunteering on the Groton Vermont Fast Squad. Rita was never afraid to get her hands dirty and would chip in wherever help was needed.
Rita was a caring and unique friend to many. She was fiercely loyal and honest in her dealings with everyone and expected the same in return. She was a talented artisan; mechanic; writer; storyteller; illustrator; carpenter; handy-person. She usually carried treats for kids and critters and always offered a smile or a laugh, trying to brighten the world one person at a time. Rita will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives were forever changed by the special person Rita was.
