Mr. Knight was born March 5, 1930, in rural Knoxville, Tenn., to the late Roscoe Knight and Lucille Bollinger Knight. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Knight retired from the Air Force in 1968, after 21 years of service. He then moved to Carthage where he owned Gragg Typewriter Inc. in Pittsburg, Kan., from which he retired in 1994. Mr. Knight was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage, where he served as a deacon and elder of the church. He coached Little League Baseball in Carthage for the "Southwest Agency" team and also umpired in Carthage Little League for many years.

Mr. Knight married Lorraine Carter on Dec. 27, 1956, at Madison Presbyterian Church east of Carthage. They celebrated 50 years of marriage Dec. 27, 2006. Lorraine survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Michael Knight and wife, Rhonda, of Joplin, and David Knight, of Laural, Md.; two daughters, Kathi Knight-Breitag and husband, Val, of Carthage, and Debbie Knight-Oexman and husband, Robert, of Carthage; one sister, Barbara Hover, of Arlington, Texas; and eight grandchildren, Kristopher Knight and his wife, Erica, Kamren Knight, Greg Arnold, Matt Arnold, Tyler Breitag, Emile Oexman, Hannah Oexman and Adelle Knight. Mr. Knight was expecting his first great-granddaughter, Madeleine Knight.
