John Lewis Underwood, Sr., 74, of McGregor, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2007. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Stonegate Church, 10020 Panther Way, Hewitt, Texas, with the Reverend Donald Beard officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Waco Memorial Park under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cole Funeral Home.

John Lewis was born in Shawmut, Ala., to the late George Lee and Uvera (McQueen) Underwood, and received his education in Alabama. On Nov. 30, 1967, he married Donna Glenell Morse Simpson in San Marcos, Texas. During the Korean War, John served his country in the U.S. Air Force with two tours of duty in Korea. It has been said that John's life produced much love and joy that many generations will greatly remember.

John was preceded in death by a brother, George Clinton Underwood; and his sister, Martha Rowena Underwood.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Glenell Underwood, of McGregor; sons, Edward Glenn Simpson and his wife, Debra, of McGregor, and John Lewis Underwood, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Lorena; daughters: Nora Gail Castonugay and her husband, Jimmy, of New Port News, Va., Charline Dell Smith and her husband, Lester, of Buffalo, Debra Katherine Cox and her husband, Bill, of Austin, Gayla Donann Saxton, of Belton, Carla Jan Burton, of Taylor, Jo Ann Gregory, of Austin, April Joy Hicks and her husband, Richard, of Round Rock, Melissa Kay Roberts and her husband, Royce, of Rendon; 30 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and niece, Mary Cathy Truette of Pensacola, Fla.
