Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Pastor Eric Anderson will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Palmyra.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, April 2, 2018, at the Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel.
Anita was born May 27, 1930, in Hannibal, MO, to Sidney and Frances Watters.
She was married to L. Edward "Eddie" Schaeffer on April 29, 1951 in Palmyra. He preceded her in death November 30, 2015.
In the days leading up to her passing, she was constantly surrounded by many people that love her. Survivors include a daughter, Kelly Higgs (Dennis), Columbus, IN, a son, Scott Schaeffer (Kristin Stauffer), Cedar Rapids, IA, a daughter-in-law, Janis "Jan" Schaeffer, Hannibal, a grandson, Wade Schaeffer, a granddaughter, Stacey Gros, and a brother, Maurice Watters. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, her son, Gary Schaeffer, her parents and her brother, Milliard Watters.
She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was also a teacher who taught at Cloverdale, a one-room school house near Palmyra.
Anita was a lifetime member of Palmyra United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital or the donor's choice.
