Katie Jo Smith, age 78, of Oak Hill, WV, formerly of Crab Orchard, WV, passed away at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Born on October 27, 1939, in Danese, WV, she was the daughter of the late Oley and Nellie Kincaid Smith.
Miss Smith was a retired registered nurse from the Beckley VA Medical Center. She received her nursing training from the C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge, Virginia, and after her training she continued to work there for many years.
Miss Smith was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Beckley, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and gardening in her spare time. Miss Smith was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Danese, WV.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Donald, Arnold, and James Smith, and by sisters Thelma Mae Smith, Mabel Morris, and Ruth Kincaid. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a special cousin who was raised as her sister, Velma Hudkins, of Charleston, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Monday April 2, 2018 at 3 PM with Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery at Abraham. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services on Monday at the funeral home. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
