Nancy was born to Raymond and Bernie (Simons) Franey on February 28, 1951 in Carroll, IA. She attended Lohrville elementary school and graduated from Lohrville High School in 1969. Nancy was married to Tom DeVries on May 18, 1974 at St. Mary’s parish in Lake City, IA. They were blessed with three wonderful children: Shawn, Eric, and Katie.

Nancy will be fondly and warmly remembered for her big heart and strong will. She was always looking for ways to help people, which drew her to volunteering and offering service to the Sac Community. She was an active member of St. Mary’s parish, a PEO sister, and a Loring Hospital Auxiliary board member. A list of her volunteer activities would require extra pages here, and yet she always felt she could be doing more for others.

Nancy’s grandkids lit up her world, she enjoyed every moment she got to spend with them. To her, the hardest part of her being sick was that she wouldn’t get to spend time with her grandkids and watch them grow up. She was such a strong woman and role model; her legacy will set a great example for all of them to look up to.

When she wasn’t out for walks or spending time with good friends, you could find Nancy on the golf course - it was her favorite place to be every Thursday during the summer months. She cherished her time out on the greens with some of her dearest friends followed by a cold beer in the clubhouse. That competitive sporting drive was felt at home too, everyone knows it was Cyclone territory at the DeVries residence. Nancy and Tom loved making trips to Ames for football games and tailgating. She even loved cheering on the clones from her living room (and even a little yelling when things didn’t go ISU’s way). Nancy was a great organizer who could plan a fabulous party in under an hour. She had a way of making even the smallest celebrations extra special with the perfect gift to make you feel loved. Nancy opened her heart to friends and family, she wasn’t just a mother to her three children but to so many others. She always knew the perfect thing to say, offered great advice, and gave the biggest hugs. Her best advice - always be kind!

Nancy is survived by; children: Shawn (Kelli) DeVries of Cedar Rapids, IA, Eric (Wendy) DeVries of Mapleton, IA, Katie (David) DeVries - Rapp of Chicago, IL; sister: Mary Hahn of Ocala, FL; grandchildren: Benjamin, Okie & Thomas DeVries of Cedar Rapids, IA, Parker, Ellena, & Olivia DeVries of Mapleton, IA; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Tom DeVries; parents Raymond & Bernie Franey and parents-in-law Herman & Dorothy DeVries; brother Robert Franey; sister Ann Jenkins; niece Rochelle Franey; and brother-in-law Richard Hahn.
