Mr. Kary graduated from Polytechnic Institute before serving in the Army Air Corps in 1945. When he returned to Baltimore he attended Johns Hopkins University School of Engineering on the GI Bill. In March of 1949 he married Anna May Vollenweider. They were married for over 67 years until her passing in June of 2016. Mr. Kary was the owner and president of the Asphalt Service Company in Baltimore, American Paving Company in Salisbury and Kary Asphalt in Bishop, Maryland. He was an active member and past President of the Maryland Asphalt Association. He was also a member of Associated Builders and Contractors and the National Asphalt Paving Association. He was a dedicated member of the Methodist Men. Mr. Kary retired to the Florida Keys and was an avid boater, fisherman and Orioles fan. He served on the boards and building committees of his neighborhood associations and churches in both Maryland and Florida. He enjoyed a life enriched by the love of his family and his many friendships.
He was born on July 5, 1926 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Thomas Angelo Kary and Nina Walter Kary. He was predeceased by his wife and his sister Jane Brookhart.
He is survived by his three children Susan, Donna and Steve and by his four grandchildren Adam, Sheridan, Stephen and Nicholas.
There will be a memorial service on April 12th at 11:00 am in the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, 5 2nd Ave SE, Glen Burnie, MD 21061, where he was a member for 65 years. Internment with military honors will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, Maryland.
