Ms. Geraldine Hawks Leonard, age 65, of Cana, VA passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. She was born in Surry County, October 17, 1952 to the late Clyde and Iris Easter Hawks. Geraldine faithfully attended Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church throughout her life. She was always willing to serve in any position needed to help the church or the church family. Geraldine started her career with Eco-Knit for several years prior to starting her 19-year career with Snappy Lunch. Geraldine is survived by her fiancé and caregiver, Robert “Monk” Moncus; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Michelle Dalton Leonard; grandchildren, Allie Leonard, Luke Leonard, Jed Leonard and Easton Leonard; “step-son” Jason Moncus, his wife, Barbara, and children, Junior and Allison Moncus; “step-daughter” Scarlet Easter and her children, Caleb and Everett Easter; a special cousin and his wife, Bob and Jeanette Leonard; several other cousins and friends and her special Snappy Lunch Family. In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by grandparents, Manuel and Hattie Smith Easter and Earl and Eliza Surratt Hawks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Carlton Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from Saturday night from 6:00 until 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff of Novant Health Oncology Center in Mt. Airy for the kindness and care given to Geraldine during her illness.
