Gertrude Jackson
Gertrude E. Jackson, 88, of 817 N. Main St., died Nov. 10, 1990 at Walla Walla General Hospital. Private family services will be held at a later date [at which time her cremains were spread on husband Walter's grave]. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church through the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main, Milton-Freewater. Mrs. Jackson was born March 19, 1902 in Milton-Freewater to Willis and Ada Martin Carder. She attended schools in Clyde, Wash., and Starbuck, and completed her education in Maringo, Wash. Following her schooling, she began working on farms and cooking. She married Lester Land, whom she later divorced. On April 4, 1923, Mrs. Jackson married Walter Jackson in Colfax. The couple farmed on the Tucannon River, where they raised sheep. The Jacksons later moved to Pasco, where they continued farming, and then moved to Sunnyside, Wash., where they had a dairy farm and raised alfalfa seed. Mrs. Jackson returned to Walla Walla in 1968 following her husband's death. She attended the First Congregational Church. Mrs. Jackson is survived by her four sons, . . . three daughters, Winona (Land) Quigley of Pasco [d. July 3, 2002], . . . ; a brother, Bill Carder of Walla; three sisters, Dola Greer of Portland, Grace Copley of Spokane, and Mary Bosley of Walla Walla, 30 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Note: Walter Scott Jackson, the second husband of Gertrude Carder, was the son of Richard A. & Zora/Zorah (King) Jackson, the grandson of William Berry King & Elizabeth Sylvania (Cantonwine) Jackson, and the great-grandson of George & Malinda (Lewis) Cantonwine.
