Joe Christian, Jr.

Mr. Christian was a native of Fairfield, Alabama near Birmingham. He received his high school diploma from Fairfield Industrial High School in 1952.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1957 and received an honorable discharge from the Reserves in 1961. After his active military service, he received an associate business degree from Lewis College in Detroit, Michigan and subsequently matriculated at South Carolina State College (University).
After graduating from South Carolina State University in 1961 with a BS in Business Administration he proceeded to work in higher education at several universities with varying positions in administration. In 1969, he decided to return to school where he earned his MBA at Atlanta University. Armed with the MBA, he began a new career in the corporate sector that lasted 19 years with Proctor & Gamble. Post retirement from P&G, he returned to higher education as an adjunct professor and Assistant to the Dean of the School of Business at Fayetteville State University.
In service to God, Mr. Christian was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church for over 30 years where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. In service to his community, Mr. Christian was a dedicated member of the Iota Iota Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc; most recently receiving his 50 Year Service Award and pin. Also he was a founding member of the Cape Fear Chapter of the 100 Black Men as well as a member of the Raleigh Chapter of Guys and Dolls.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife of 46 years, Mable; daughter Cynthia, of Raleigh, sons Jay (Terese) & Michael (Holly), both of Charlotte, four grandchildren Noah, Joshua, Camille & Margot; two Aunts, Mattie Lee Rudolph, of Hueytown, Alabama & Jessie Belle Branch of Detroit, Michigan; in addition to a host of dear relatives and friends.
The family will be receiving visitors on Thursday, June 28 from 7-9pm in the sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church. Mr. Christian's Memorial Service is scheduled Friday, June 29 at 11:00am at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation in support of one of the following: Trinity Baptist Church Children's Ministry, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609, Omega Psi Phi Scholarship Fund, Iota Iota Chapter, PO Box 27353, Raleigh, NC 27611, or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
