Mishawaka-Janet M. Walters, 81, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.
Janet was born on July 14, 1936 in Niles, Michigan to Lester W. and Irene L. (Young) Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Phyllis Kater.
On August 23, 1958 in the Presbyterian Church of Niles she married Harry Walters. Surviving are her loving husband, Harry; son, Mike (Denise) Walters; daughter, Amy (Dennis) Rhoads; grandchildren, Jacob and Benjamin Walters; step grandchildren, Jennifer, D.C. and Christopher Rhoads; and sister, Marjorie Mercia of Niles.
Janet worked for Tyler Refrigeration in Niles, MI for 6 years and retired from St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of South Bend after 47 years in patient accounts. She loved to travel and take Sunday afternoon rides, spending time with her grandchildren, their activities, going to dinner, going to church, eating at Cracker Barrel and shopping. She was a 1954 Niles High School graduate and was one of the 12 Calendar Girls of Niles, Michigan.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 3 at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mary Lou Swartz Children’s Fund at First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
