Franklin D Batey was born to Henry and Alice Batey on December 2,1935 in Guadalupe County. He ended his battle with cancer on Wednesday March 28, 2018 surrounded by his family at the age of 82. Franklin is preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers Virgil, Howard, Damon, Kenneth, and Charlie; and sister, Annie. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Verna; Mother of his children Rae Nelle; Children Jeff (Barbara) Batey, Carrie (Gary) Henk, and Cindy Pierson (Joe Stewart); stepchildren Debbie (Steve) Richardson, Pam (Richard) Atkinson, and Jody McGlothlin; siblings Phillip (Patty) Batey, Mary Alice Batey (William Brausel), Katie Mae Batey, Barbara June (Mike) Henk; Sister in law Nettie Batey; Grandchildren Brandon Batey, Abbey Batey, Kambrie Henk, Hallie Pierson, Darci Pierson, Stacy (Matt) Oehlers, Melissa Bretzke, Landrie Richardson, Rianna Richardson, Karah McGlothin, and Hayden McGlothlin; Great Grandchildren Tucker, Jacob, Leo, Lucie and Murphie.

Franklin lived a very full life. He loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure. He found joy in fishing (mostly untangling the kids lines), hunting, working in his garage, and most of all trail rides with his friends and family. He was a founder of the Indianola Trail Ride. His careers included 8 years in the naval reserves, ironworker, farrier, and metal building erector. Franklin was one of the founders and lifetime members of The Heritage Trail Ride Association and Comal County Sheriff’s Posse. He took pride in his family and all of his accomplishments, especially his title of Pawpaw. Franklin stole the hearts of many and loved his family well, he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

Services will be held graveside on Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Dugger Cemetery 100 Dugger Rd. Seguin, Texas off highway 123 at 1:00 in the afternoon with reception to follow at the Albert Kypher hall in Clear Springs. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Heritage Trail Ride Association College Scholarship Fund ℅ Marion J. Borchers 408 S. Seguin St. New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
