He was born April 27, 1922 in Bridgeport, CT, and grew up in nearby Danbury. Art joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942, and was initially stationed in Washington, D.C., where he met and married his wife of 70 years, Rosemary Nester. After his military service in Saipan and Nagasaki, Japan, Art and Rosemary settled and raised a family in Overland Park, KS. He began his work career as a sales representative of the Obear-Nester Glass Company and traveled widely throughout the United States. Eventually, Art joined the U.S. Postal Service and retired after many years of service. Art was always devoted to his family and was someone who could be counted on by his neighbors. He was an active member of Holy Cross Church in Overland Park where he routinely attended Mass and delivered groceries to families in need. As for recreation, Art was a talented artist, using his free time to create portraits and landscapes in chalk and charcoal drawings as well as oil paintings. Art was a sports enthusiast whose interests varied from baseball and football, to boxing and golf. When the weather was good he could be found at the Overland Park Golf Course, perfecting his swing. Art will be greatly missed by family and friends. Art was preceded in death by his parents, John and Francis Walsh; sister, Kathryn O’Neal; brother Jack Walsh; sister Marie Scalzo; son, John “Jay” Walsh ; grandson, Kevin Walsh.
