Verna E. Fletcher, 97, Wausau, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015 at Aspirus Hospice House.
She was born Dec. 2, 1917 in Edgar, daughter of the late Benjamin and Martha (Grosskreutz) Stark. Verna married the love of her life, Lyle Fletcher on Aug. 3, 1940 in Iowa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 2001.
In her younger years, Verna worked for Marathon Electric in Wausau and later as a cashier for Employers Mutual Insurance of Wausau. She retired from the Wausau West High School, where she enjoyed working a a cashier in the school cafeteria. Among some of her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed sewing, ceramics and cooking. She also baked wonderful treats for family and friends and worked many hours in her huge garden. Verna also loved to travel to New Mexico and New Jersey on a yearly basis to visit with family. She visited the Bahamas and St. Thomas to name a few. She also had the rare opportunity to ride a camel on her vacation to Israel.
Survivors include, two children, Barbara Fletcher and Robert (fiancee Kristine Buehler) Fletcher; one sister, Elsie Meier; one brother-in-law, Carl Yessa, all of Wausau; and was a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Alma Yessa.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015 at Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Wausau.
